Fair Park — Briscoe Carpenter Livestock Center

As the first new structure in Fair Park in over 50 years, the Briscoe Carpenter Livestock Center bridges past and present

Project Brief

As the first new building constructed in the historic context of Fair Park since the 1960s, the Briscoe Carpenter Livestock Center represents an exciting opportunity to reinterpret the architecture of the 1936 Texas Centennial Exhibition to meet modern functional and technological requirements. This new facility replaces the existing outdoor auction barn and is strategically located adjacent to the Swine Building and Cattle Barn 1.

The 55,000-square-foot Livestock Center offers exhibit space, a stepped-floor auction arena, and animal holding areas on the ground floor. The second floor features a banquet facility, dining and lounge areas, and year-round offices for State Fair staff. Additionally, the building houses the Heritage Hall of Honor, a museum dedicated to images and artifacts that celebrate the rich history of ranching in Texas.

Designed by GFF, the center’s architecture pays homage to Fair Park’s historical aesthetic while incorporating modern elements. The design includes a mix of traditional materials like buff-colored precast, copper, and limestone to tie the new structure to its historic surroundings. The building also features state-of-the-art facilities that support a wide range of activities, from livestock auctions and agricultural education programs to community events and conventions throughout the year.

Civic / Government

Our design for Fort Worth’s Northwest Patrol Substation draws inspiration from the city’s frontier heritage and the architectural legacy of the Stockyards.
