Situated on a historic campus site, Sabina redefines multi-family housing for young professionals with a design that balances density, sustainability, and community appeal
Project Brief
Sabina is a 298-unit multi-family residential development planned for a 2.585 acre site on the former Concordia Lutheran College Campus at 32nd Street and Interstate 35 in Austin. The project places four stories of wood-framed apartments atop a two-story concrete podium containing 402 parking spaces. The Planned Unit Development ordinance for the district calls for the street-facing facades of the podium to be occupied by residential units as a way of enlivening the streets. The building is clad with limestone and cement plaster, with a modern discipline that should appeal to the targeted graduate student/recent graduate demographic segment. Operating according to the Austin Green Building Code, the project also relocated a Live Oak Tree from the site to an adjacent traffic circle. This project opened in December 2013.
