Good Shepherd Episcopal Church & School – Sanctuary Renovation

With a larger sanctuary and a gracious new entry, the church invites congregants into a space that feels both familiar and renewed

Project Brief

GFF undertook the Sanctuary renovation at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Dallas as part of a larger Master Plan. The project involved expanding the seating capacity within the Sanctuary by adding transepts to either side of the existing nave, increasing the seating by  200 occupants and completing the traditional cruciform floor plan. The design includes new light fixtures that respect the original architectural vocabulary while enhancing the overall lighting levels within the room.

Porcelain tile flooring was selected for both the Sanctuary and the Narthex, complementing the existing slate flooring at the chancel. Additionally, a new porte-cochere with a wood deck and trusses was designed to enhance the drop-off and arrival experience for congregants, providing a welcoming and functional entry point.

This renovation exemplifies GFF’s commitment to preserving historical integrity while incorporating modern enhancements to improve functionality and aesthetics. The project from the Faith & Community Studio highlights the firm’s dedication to creating spaces that honor tradition while serving contemporary needs, ensuring the church continues to be a vibrant and welcoming place of worship.
