Downtown Dallas Parks Master Plan

Dallas is rewilding its downtown—transforming vacant lots and underused corners into a connected network of parks, plazas, and green corridors that invite residents and visitors to walk, gather, and celebrate in the heart of the city

Project Brief

The City of Dallas and private sector funding partners engaged a large consulting team, with GFF providing base mapping, site analysis, and site selection expertise, to develop a master plan for adding significant new parks in Downtown Dallas. The study identified 17 candidate sites for evaluation, ranging from small plazas or “vest-pocket” parks to strategic parkway linkages and larger urban parks that could offer active recreation and facilitate large celebrations or festivals.

Working with a steering committee and incorporating public input, the team proposed a list of 13 criteria to compare the sites. The three top-ranked sites will proceed into detailed programming and design phases. Carter and Burgess is the prime consultant for the study, with Hargreaves Associates providing urban design and landscape architectural services.

The master plan aims to establish a network of parks that replaces surface parking lots with green spaces, making downtown Dallas more attractive for residents, visitors, and businesses. This initiative is part of a broader vision to enhance the quality of life in Dallas by creating a more pedestrian-friendly and interconnected urban environment.
