The project’s modern interpretation of prairie style architecture complements the surrounding neighborhood, creating a seamless urban living environment.
Project Brief
GFF was selected to design Alta Henderson, a 106-unit multi-family residential project in the popular Henderson Avenue corridor of in-town Dallas. The project’s site plan, delivering 42 units per acre, achieved a greater density of apartments than originally expected. The client’s program requested avoiding a structured parking solution to maintain a competitive advantage with lower rental rates. The three-story building embraces the streets in an appropriately urban form, creating a secured parking court accessed by a gated portal. The architectural style is a modern interpretation of the prairie style prevalent in Old East Dallas.
Shallow pitched roofs are rendered in standing seam metal, with brick, natural cedar shakes, and Hardi-panels used as wall veneers. The project’s construction was completed in late 2011.
The design addresses the need for a high-density, cost-effective residential solution that blends with the urban fabric of the Henderson Avenue corridor. By utilizing materials and architectural elements that echo the surrounding neighborhood, Alta Henderson provides a modern yet contextually sensitive living environment. The secure parking court and thoughtful layout enhance the appeal and functionality of the development, offering residents both convenience and aesthetic harmony.
