Fort Worth Academy

Flexible learning spaces that fuel collaboration and fearless innovation

Project Brief

Fort Worth Academy occupies a campus of approximately 21 acres, with a current enrollment of just over 200 students in grades K through 8. GFF completed a campus master plan that examined the condition, capacity, and suitability of existing facilities and outdoor spaces relative to current programs and potential new or expanded programs to meet a new strategic plan. Supporting the school’s unique pedagogy with best practices and benchmark comparisons from peer schools, the plan identified needs and opportunities for renovation, expansion, or replacement of existing facilities, along with potential new construction, landscape, and outdoor space enhancements. Major interventions proposed included an expansion and reconfiguration of the Middle School wing to create new flexible “radical collaboratory” spaces and improve instructional areas. New administrative and welcome spaces were planned to enhance the entry experience, along with a new, larger gymnasium. The existing gym was slated for enhancement and renovation to be used as an assembly/performance space. Fort Worth Academy’s mission is to cultivate fearless learning and innovation, preparing students for success in a rapidly changing world. This master plan aligns with the academy’s mission by modernizing facilities to support its progressive educational approach, enhancing the learning environment, and fostering collaboration. The proposed flexible learning spaces, updated administrative areas, and improved athletic and performance facilities reflect a commitment to providing an adaptive and inspiring educational setting.
