Dallas Arboretum Parking Garage

A parking structure designed to harmonize with the Arboretum’s garden environment

Project Brief

Programmed to serve the Dallas Arboretum Main Campus and the new Children’s Garden, this 1,150-space, 5-level, 460,000 square foot parking garage is designed to blend seamlessly with the Arboretum’s unique garden character. An enhanced underground walkway safely connects visitors from the lowest basement level to the main campus, eliminating the need to cross six lanes of traffic on Garland Road. The main façade of the garage is composed of a steel lattice that references organic patterns, marking the entrance and vertical circulation. Buff-colored precast, copper, and limestone materials tie the garage structure to the main entrance of the campus. Planters around the perimeter of the elevated structure soften the mass of the building from the exterior, while enhancing the arrival experience from the interior. Designed with sustainability in mind, the parking garage includes planters and green spaces that integrate with the existing landscape, promoting a natural aesthetic that aligns with the Arboretum’s mission. The garage not only provides necessary parking facilities but also enhances the overall visitor experience by offering a safe and aesthetically pleasing transition into the gardens. This project represents a thoughtful approach to integrating functional infrastructure within a cherished natural environment, ensuring that the structure supports both practical needs and the Arboretum’s commitment to preserving its unique character and promoting sustainability
