The Container Store – Multiple Locations

From San Francisco to Boston, each location reflects both its city and the brand’s core identity

Project Brief

GFF began working with this Dallas-based specialty retailer in 2000 to assist with entry into denser urban markets where the standard 25,000-square-foot prototypical layout would not be suitable. As a result, The Container Store evolved into multi-level stores or configurations made more complex due to structured parking. Additionally, GFF has assisted with finish selections, lighting design, and prepared finish-out packages. The company’s goal to double the number of stores from 25 to 50 during this period included multiple locations in Manhattan, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, as well as stores in Washington, D.C., Boston, Seattle, Denver, and St. Louis. Ress Associates provided design consulting services for several of these “high brand” stores. The design addresses the need to adapt retail spaces to urban environments while maintaining the brand’s identity. By developing multi-level configurations and integrating structured parking, the stores effectively utilize limited urban space. The attention to finishes and lighting ensures a consistent and inviting shopping experience across various locations. This flexible approach allows The Container Store to expand its footprint in diverse markets while staying true to its brand values.
