Eastfield College Master Plan – Campus Master Plan

Eastfield College (DCCCD) provides nearly 672,000 square feet of building area on the 240-acre main campus, of which approximately 160 acres are currently undeveloped. The Pleasant Grove satellite offers an additional 42,000 square feet. More than half of the space inventory is approaching, and in some cases exceeding, the useful life of major building systems. Beyond escalating operating costs from outdated MEP systems and inefficient building envelope insulation, teaching spaces designed a half-century ago do not meet the needs of current teaching or learning styles. The age of campus facilities required master planning for a major campaign of building rehabilitation and replacement.

The master plan identified major areas of emphasis, including the replacement or comprehensive renovation of aging, inefficient, and outdated facilities. The plan aims to improve student services facilities to enhance the student experience and expand facilities in areas of greatest demand. Creating new spaces for both student and staff collaboration is a key focus, as is developing a welcoming “front door” to the campus. Additionally, the plan seeks to improve the integration of the “outside the loop” buildings (K, T, W) with the core campus. Opportunities for beneficial development of underutilized land at the campus perimeter, in collaboration with community partners, were also identified.
