GFF Celebrating Pride Month with a Partnership with The Trevor Project
It is tough being a teen. It is even harder being a LGBTQ teen according to a recent survey published by the LGBTQ mental health nonprofit, The Trevor Project. For the nonprofit’s fourth edition of its National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health, researchers surveyed nearly 34,000 LGBTQ people between the ages of 13 and 24 in the U.S. between September 20 and December 31, 2021. With 45% of respondents being people of color and 48% being transgender or nonbinary, the annual survey is “one of the most diverse surveys of LGBTQ youth ever conducted,” according to the Trevor Project. According to the survey results, 45% of young LGBTQ people seriously considered attempting suicide in 2021 and for a third consecutive year in a row, a staggering number of LGBTQ youth reported an increase in suicidal ideation.
“We must recognize that LGBTQ young people face stressors simply for being who they are that their peers never have to worry about”
CEO and executive director of the Trevor Project, Amit Paley
The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) young people. Through 24/7 Crisis Support, Advocacy, Research, and Education, The Trevor Project seeks to end suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer and questioning young people to create a world where all LGBTQ young people see a bright future for themselves.
“The state of mental health within our country is in crisis and LGBTQ youth are experiencing mental health issues at an alarmingly higher rate than the general population with less access to support. At GFF we know that simply recognizing this crisis is not enough. We need action! As we celebrate Pride 2022, we are collaborating with the Trevor Project, an amazing organization that is working toward building a world where all LGBTQ young people see a bright future for themselves. Partnering with the Trevor Project provides an opportunity for GFF to raise both awareness and financial support for America’s LGBTQ+ youth in this mental health crisis. As a design firm, are committed to improving our communities through thoughtful actions, visible presence and sustained commitment, to be good stewards of the means and resources entrusted to us from society, and most of all, to provide meaningful opportunities for ALL.”
