GFF designed a new five-story, 854-car garage to serve the southern end of the Southern Methodist University campus. As an outgrowth of the Centennial Master Plan, which GFF authored, parking garages located on the periphery of the campus help reinforce the pedestrian character and generally beautify the campus by converting asphalt to green space. The 326,500 square foot garage will serve the new East Quad, Moody Coliseum, and athletic venues to the south, most notably Ford Stadium and Westcott Field. The garage cost $13,380,000, or approximately $15,670 per space. It is compatible with the collegiate Georgian style of the campus and was completed in April 2008.
This garage project aligns with the university’s mission by supporting campus infrastructure that enhances the overall student experience. By situating the garage on the campus periphery, the design reinforces a pedestrian-friendly environment, contributing to a more walkable and aesthetically pleasing campus. The transformation of asphalt areas into green spaces further promotes environmental sustainability and campus beautification. The garage’s architectural compatibility with the collegiate Georgian style ensures that it integrates seamlessly with the historic character of the university.
