First United Methodist Church of Allen

Allen, Texas

GFF partnered with First United Methodist Church of Allen to address the church’s vision of being a welcoming place for all generations, aiming to join together on a life-changing Christian journey. The existing facilities were not supporting this vision adequately, hindering the church’s growth and outreach potential. To tackle these issues, GFF was tasked with three main priorities: creating a central welcome space exuding exceptional hospitality, establishing a secure and inviting area for children to attract young families, and developing a dynamic youth area to foster fun, fellowship, and worship.

The new children’s addition consolidates previously dispersed areas into one secure space, enhancing safety and accessibility. This reorganization allowed for the creation of a newly renovated youth space with breakout classrooms and a dedicated area for games, fellowship, and worship. Additionally, the project facilitated the consolidation of the church’s offices into a single wing, improving operational efficiency.

A two-story atrium, serving as the new “front door” of the church, connects the existing sanctuary to the new additions, providing a clear entry point from the main parking area and much-needed space for fellowship and connection. The atrium’s focal point is the church’s new Missions Café, which opens onto a large exterior patio and courtyard, enabling the church to engage with the Allen/Fairview community in dynamic new ways.

This project from GFF’s Faith & Community Studio underscores the firm’s commitment to designing spaces that enhance the church’s mission of community service and spiritual growth.
