One of the most dramatic enhancements to The Hockaday School campus was the complete remodeling and renovation of the Classroom Building. This 79,000 square foot, two-story 60’s modernist building originally housed the library and small classroom spaces. By enlarging the classrooms through the combination of three classes into two and brightening the corridors with natural light, this building now embraces a renewed love of learning for another 50 years. A new curtain wall, newly landscaped garden courtyard, and shading trellises enhance the outdoor setting and essentially create “classrooms under the trees.”
The design addresses the need for modern, spacious learning environments that foster student engagement and interaction. The integration of natural light and outdoor spaces promotes a healthy, stimulating educational atmosphere. The renovation ensures that the building not only meets current educational standards but also preserves its functionality and appeal for future generations.
