The Alton

Dallas, Texas

The Alton (formerly known as Oden Hughes Oak Lawn) is set to enhance the walkability and urban nature of Oak Lawn Avenue. Designed by Oden Hughes and GFF, this predominantly masonry eight-story building respects the scale and materials of the historic Melrose Hotel on the neighboring site to the north. The development will offer 6,000 square feet of restaurant space opening onto Oak Lawn Avenue and 330 residential units, including live-work style ground level units along Dickason Avenue.

Amenities, including a pool, will be located on level 3 within a courtyard that opens to Oak Lawn. The building design preserves many of the mature live oak trees along Oak Lawn and Dickason Avenue, contributing to the area’s green and inviting streetscape.

The design addresses the need for a harmonious integration of new development with the historic and urban fabric of Oak Lawn. By incorporating architectural elements that complement the historic Melrose Hotel and preserving mature trees, The Alton fosters a sense of continuity and respect for the neighborhood’s character. The inclusion of restaurant space and live-work units enhances the vibrancy and walkability of the area, making it a desirable urban living environment.
