Dallas, Texas
St. Monica Catholic School, located on a 10.8-acre site in northwest Dallas, engaged GFF to develop a comprehensive master plan addressing the needs of both the church and its 900-student Pre-K to 8th-grade school. The initial construction of the school, which began in 1954, included classrooms, a convent, a rectory, and a temporary church setup in the cafeteria. Over time, the campus expanded to include additional buildings to accommodate the growing congregation and student body.
The master plan focused on several key improvements: integrating the Pre-K program with the main school campus, enclosing open corridors for better security, upgrading mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, and refreshing the appearance of the original school buildings. Specific design recommendations included creating an atrium entrance to unify the older and newer structures and enhance security, as well as constructing enclosed links to connect all classroom wings, providing a cohesive and secure environment for students.
Subsequent renovations involved installing energy-efficient windows, improving air distribution and lighting, making restrooms accessible, and securing the campus perimeter with fences, gates, and new storefront entrances. These updates aimed to modernize the facilities while maintaining the school’s welcoming atmosphere. The renovations were completed primarily during the summer and the school reopened in time for the fall semester.
This project, designed by GFF’s Faith & Community Studio, highlights the commitment to creating functional, secure, and aesthetically pleasing educational environments that support both the academic and community needs of St. Monica Catholic School.
