St. Andrew Methodist Church – Hasley Chapel

In 2015, GFF developed a 30-year master plan for the future of St. Andrew’s 21-acre campus in Plano, Texas. A stand-alone chapel was planned to be nestled in the northwest corner of their property. After a Sanctuary renovation and Children’s, Students’, and Missions additions were completed, in 2020 St. Andrew turned their attention to the design of the chapel. The ministry goals for the project included providing an intimate 300 seat chapel for weddings, funerals, worship services, and small conference events: a unique jewel of a building. St. Andrew also wanted this chapel to honor their founding pastor, Rev. Robert Hasley, his legacy, and his ministry. Designed as “a chapel in the woods” overlooking the creek and pond on campus, it is reminiscent of Robert’s beloved Arkansas home. The chapel itself is an elegant sacred space with an A-frame roof supported by wood trusses and roof deck. The building is composed of natural materials such as wood and stone on the interior and exterior to create a warm and inviting space, blurring the line between outside and inside with the focus of the worship space being the dramatic view to the creek. Support areas such as restrooms, a parlor, sacristy, and vestry are organized on the west side of the building. The chapel also features a balcony for an organ, choir loft, and additional seating.

Construction on the chapel began after Easter 2022 and is scheduled to be completed by Easter 2023. It is an honor to serve St. Andrew with the design of this “chapel in the woods” honoring Robert Hasley!
