R+D Kitchen

Dallas, Texas

This new custom restaurant set on the periphery of a Park Cities neighborhood provides a low-slung, high-end setting for casual dining prepared with the finest, freshest ingredients. Designed to respect its residential surroundings and human scale, the single-story building is constructed with brick, plaster, copper sheet, Jarrah wood, and steel-framed windows. A partial Douglas Fir roof structure and an extensive art collection add to the warmth of the interior environment.

The restaurant, compact and dense at 4,800 square feet, is simultaneously light and airy with its abundant glazing. The open interior space features strong visual connections to the exhibition kitchen, bar, landscaping, and dining patio. A cast-in-place water feature helps mask traffic noise and provides amusement with its Koi population.

The design addresses the need for a sophisticated yet approachable dining experience that blends seamlessly with its residential context. By using high-quality materials and creating an open, visually connected space, the restaurant fosters an inviting and comfortable atmosphere. The integration of natural elements and art enhances the dining experience, making it a distinctive destination within the neighborhood.
