Joshua Community YMCA
The YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth joined forces with the City of Joshua in an effort to bring this up and coming city its first recreation center. GFF was hired to provide a design that would showcase the fresh growth and forward movement of the City while integrating the facility into the vernacular of its local Texas surroundings.
This 24,868 SF building is a rectangular concrete tilt panel form that is anchored by a tall entrance tower of natural stone and steel. The south and east facades are accented by contemporary rectangular forms of concrete board siding, natural stone and glass.
On the interior, the building is organized into two linear blocks. The first is a large open-to-structure space that contains the lobby and main fitness area highlighted by large windows and bright blocks of warm color. Concrete floors, wood and metal accents aid in blending the exterior and interior vocabulary. The second is a contrasting solid form of neutral color that contains accessory aerobic rooms, child care, locker rooms and offices. The color in this space accents the corridors that lead to the exterior swimming pool and playing fields while each room within it opens up to showcase YMCA’s brand-defining scheme of vivid hues.
