J. Erik Jonsson School

Dallas, Texas

This innovative school, founded and supported by one of Dallas’ most respected service organizations, restored the charming 1930 Oak Cliff YMCA, transformed a “past-its-prime” 1960’s church structure and constructed 35,000 SF of new school building to breathe new life into a north Oak Cliff neighborhood. The project combines a Pre K through 6th grade school for 350 at-risk children with a counseling center engaging the families of the students, and a gathering space seating 250 for the Club’s weekly luncheons. The architectural challenge well met was to bring an aesthetic harmony to a campus of disparate parts.
