Fort Worth, Texas
The Diamond Hill Community Center is located in the close-knit, multi-generational, and largely Hispanic neighborhood of Diamond Hill in Fort Worth, Texas.
GFF was commissioned to design a new 25,000 square foot building to replace the adjacent outdated center while ensuring continuous operation during construction. The new center will host a popular after-school program for the nearby elementary school, a teen program, community events, and a variety of fitness classes including karate, dance, and boxing. Additionally, a competition-sized gym will provide facilities for basketball and volleyball tournaments.
To accommodate these larger gathering spaces economically and efficiently, the new building utilizes a combination of three pre-manufactured long-span metal building structures connected by the main entry and lobby. These structures are prominently displayed both inside and outside the building. Along with the simple masonry and metal building skin, and the brightly colored glazed block accents that reference traditional Hispanic textiles, the new building creates a contextually and programmatically unique space for a unique neighborhood.
