Coram Deo Academy

Flower Mound, Texas

Coram Deo Academy is a non-denominational day school serving Christian families at three locations in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex. The school engaged GFF to develop a prototype building that could be adapted to suit their needs at their main campus for a gymnasium and support spaces, as well as be designed to become the main school building for their new Collin County campus. The prototype consisted of a large multipurpose room /gymnasium in the center of the building and classroom/support spaces surrounding it. Following completion of the new school for the Collin County Campus focus shifted back to their main Flower Mound campus. This 23,530 SF building adds a multipurpose gymnasium, 7 classrooms, and other support spaces to the 3 buildings already on their 15 Acre campus for grades pre K-12. A challenge for this project was a new code requirement for Storm Shelters in schools. The design was modified to create a shelter compliant with the ICC 500-2014, ICC/NSSA Standard for the Design and Constriction of Storm Shelters around a long corridor and 4 classrooms providing safety for up to 497 occupants from tornadoes.
