Cafe R+D
Dallas, Texas
This new custom restaurant set on the periphery of a Park Cities neighborhood provides a low-slung, high-end setting for casual food prepared with the finest, freshest ingredients. Conceived to respect its residential surroundings as well as human scale, the single story building is constructed with brick, plaster, copper sheet, Jarrah wood, and steel-framed windows. A partial Douglas Fir roof structure and extensive art collection add to the warmth of the interior environment.
The restaurant, compact and dense at 4,800 SF – and simultaneously light and airy with its abundant glazing – features an open interior space with strong visual connections to the exhibition kitchen, bar, landscaping, and dining patio. A cast-in-place water feature helps mask traffic noise and provides amusement by way of its Koi population.
