Austin, Texas
Aspen Heights West Campus is an off-campus student housing apartment tower located in the West Campus neighborhood, immediately adjacent to the University of Texas at Austin. The site, approximately ½ acre at Rio Grande St. and 21st St., houses 166 apartments and 466 bedrooms. The project includes leasing offices, a fitness center, a club room, a pool deck on the 6th level, service space, and five levels of below-grade parking.
The building envelope primarily features storefront and stucco at the ground level, with metal panels, operable aluminum windows, and simulated stucco on the upper levels. The metal panels are color-coated steel sheets installed with lapped and hemmed joints over continuous insulation. To address the various vertical setback zoning requirements, the primary design concept seeks to unify the resulting varied floor plates into a singular form. A “running bond” pattern of the façade materials resolves the unit plan layouts and window locations that change at each level where the building footprint shrinks.
The design addresses the need for a cohesive and functional student housing environment that integrates with the urban fabric of the West Campus neighborhood. By utilizing modern materials and innovative design solutions, Aspen Heights West Campus provides a dynamic living space that meets the needs of students while enhancing the surrounding community. The amenities and thoughtful layout offer a high-quality living experience, making it a desirable option for students at the University of Texas at Austin.
