Recently the Womble Studio took a tour of a new Headquarters Office Building under construction in Dallas. This 15,000 square foot office is located just off of the Katy Trail, near Highland Park, and the building is certainly striking. The project is intended to be representative of the owners’ legacy – humility and stewardship – and is a properly scaled three-story building which conceals its secured ground level parking and vertical circulation behind a stone base. The upper levels are a mostly glass volume, elegantly carried by the masonry base and protected from the Texas sun by dramatic overhangs and a steel brise-soliel, to provide a pleasant natural-lit environment as well as views down the trail and into Highland Park.

The construction of this building is actually nearing its finish, but it’s still an active job site with plenty to inform the team. We brought along the four GFF summer interns, and it also marked the first site visit for Sydney the Womble Studio Wombat! Jennifer Workman led us all on a very thorough tour, complete with background and insights into the process of creating this well-composed project and where its high level of design and finishes originated, as well as the stories of bargaining between employees for the office with the best view. The conversation continued down the street at Henry’s Majestic, where Sydney and all the rest of us ate and drank our fill, and we got to know our interns a little better!
