Portrait of a GFFer: Zach McLain

Meet Zach McLain. Zach received his Bachelor of Architecture from Louisiana State University (Geaux Tigers!) and joined the GFF Austin team as a Team Member in June 2018. Read below for more about Zach!

  1. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a lawyer because I thought lying and arguing with people was fun.
  2. I grew up in the sticks of Covington, Louisiana. I cook really good crawfish. I have a secret ingredient and I’m not telling.
  3. I make digital artwork and furniture. My grandmother chose to be a professional artist, and I grew up painting landscapes on the beach with her. I learned carpentry from my dad when we built a house 5 years ago. Now I have to be making something to feel productive.
  4. I used to be a songwriter before joining architecture school. I play guitar, keys, and drums and I lead worship regularly. At one point I considered becoming a composer.
  5. I think I was born 15 years too late because 90% of the time I’m listening to 70’s and 80’s pop and classic rock all day.
  6. It’s either an Old Fashioned or a Southern Pecan Porter – every time.
  7. TRON is one of my favorite movies. It inspired me to get into architecture. Funny story I found out later: one of my professors and the director of the movie went to architecture school together.
  8. I love to travel and be outside. I still haven’t been out of the country yet, but my bucket list includes Italy, France, & Scandinavia.
  9. I once successfully watched all the Harry Potter movies in one day – and it was delightful.
  10. The Office, Parks & Recreation, & White Collar are my top three shows.
  11. Swag is for boys, Class is for men.
