Portrait of a GFFer: Susan Wright

Meet Susan Wright, a native Texan, who attended the School of Architecture at UTA. When she is not in the office, you can find Susan indulging in her favorite culinary treats: sushi, anything dark chocolate, but most importantly, guacamole. Read below for more fun facts about Susan!

  1. Born and Raised Texan: born in Oak Cliff at Methodist Hospital. My family moved to Irving which is where I grew up and then I travelled all the way to Arlington to attend Architecture School at UTA. I’m really more adventuresome than that!
  2. Mother: I have two wonderful boys Alec (20) a sophomore at OSU studying mechanical engineering, and Ryan (18) a senior at Richardson High School who will attend St. Edwards next year studying chemistry.
  3. Dawg Lover: Yep, will be an empty nester soon except for my 8 year old part black lab dog Lizzy! I’ve had 3 Golden Retrievers and another rescue dog, all lived well into their teens.
  4. Architecture: Especially love being involved in all aspects of a project, enjoy working with clients face to face, helping work through design and construction challenges, figuring out details, and seeing the building at final completion. It’s fulfilling to see the fruition of your work!
  5. Art: member of the Nasher and DMA. Enjoying strolling through galleries looking at old and new art. Especially love contemporary and lots of color. I enjoy collecting great art from friends and people I’ve met or know.
  6. Music appreciation: Love all types of music including symphony music. My youngest son plays the Cello and piano which lead to me becoming a Richardson Symphony League Board member. Both boys were in the Honor Guard program. As a Board member, my volunteer positions were fundraising and putting together the graphic presentation for the annual fundraiser RSL Ball. This year’s presentation involved combing thru 30+ scrapbooks to produce the 50 year RSL history presentation!
  7. Volunteering: I have been a PTA volunteer every year since my kiddos started school! Loved participating and keep tabs on school functions and meeting new people as a working mom. Volunteer positions over the years included being in charge of school wide picnic, Hospitality – taking care of teacher appreciation or being suckered in to my favorite art related job running the Reflections Art Program which many of you help judge the last two years.
  8. Outdoors-woman: Love the outdoors. I played on the GFF team for the last 2 years, I play golf, like to swim, ride bikes and hike. Recently, I’ve been on a mission to hike all the trails listed on the 10 Top Trails for Hiking and Biking in Dallas. I’ve conquered 5 so far!
  9. Bunko: Every month without fail, I get together with a group of Architects and Interior Designer friends from my Corgan days for Bunko. Yes “Bunko” but what that really means is getting together to drink, gossip, and eat dinner and sometimes go on adventure trips!
  10. Recycle-Recycle-Recycle: Love competitions with creativity and using recycled materials. Somehow recycled materials became part of all my volunteer activities. Was the boys Destination Imagination Coach for 10 years so for as long as I can remember trash has been scrutinized before it is determined real trash! Don’t worry, I’m not a hoarder!
