Portrait of a GFFer: Ross Charba

Meet Ross Charba. He was born and raised in the small town of Portland, Texas, just north of Corpus Christi. Ross attended Texas A&M University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Environmental Design. He then went on to get his Masters of Architecture at the University of Houston. Some of his goals are seeing the Northern lights/Southern lights and Marfa lights. Read more about Ross below!

  1. I have driven on the left side of the road on an Irish road trip from Dublin to Cork (where the Titanic departed from before Leo could proclaim “I’m the king of the World!”) and back in the Euro version of a Ford Fiesta rental car, which also served as my lodging for two nights.
  2. One of the more notable and ridiculous things I do in life is walk my cat in the courtyard of my apartment complex. This entails me watching her as she hides in bushes/ shrubs eating leaves, grass, or watching me watching her. One can only assume what the neighbors think/see.
  3. A few years ago I thought it would be an admirable goal to visit all the North Texas establishments that produce alcoholic beverages. Now it seems to be an unattainable feat. Nevertheless, I continue my efforts; the tally: 13 breweries, a cidery, a distillery, and 5 breweries elsewhere.
  4. I am grandchild number 30 out of 33. If you meet a Charba tell them Hi for me.
  5. A bowl of cereal is the only way I can start my morning.
  6. I try to play soccer and hockey when I can.
  7. I enjoy designing/making furniture for my apartment with off-the-shelf cheap materials from hardware stores usually consisting of osb, plywood, and steel (flat bar and angle).
  8. Currently addicted to mustards, waffle pretzels, wheat thins, Tony Chacere’s Seasoning, and Lawry’s Seasoned Salt.
  9. I am fascinated with Glass Arts: Glassblowing, Stained Glass, Neon Lights, etc.
  10. I still watch cartoons, and collect series dvds from 80’s-90’s cartoons. Michael Bay upsets me.
