Portrait of a GFFer: Melanie Kumar

Meet Melanie Kumar. Born in New York and raised in Daytona Beach, FL, Melanie went to The University of Florida and got a job for a nationwide Single & Multifamily Home Builder in Tampa, FL after graduation. After being relocated to the office in Coppell, Texas, she realized she wanted to expand her portfolio and begin her licensure exams. She then decided to find a full-service architecture firm, which lead her to GFF. “It certainly has been worth the jump and I am very excited to be here. I am currently working on licensure, I have 3 down 4 to go!” Read below for more about Melanie!

  1. Crashing waves, salty air, and sand in my toes! I grew up less than a block away from Daytona Beach. I’m definitely a beach bum at heart.
  2. I applied to only one college and received early acceptance. There was never another option for me… GO GATORS!
  3. I have a distinct memory from when I was around 8 years old, my parents were meeting a builder about building a house and I was captivated by the floor plans. I remember thinking WOW this drawing will eventually become a real home?! It was fascinating to me, and I knew then it was something I’d like to be a part of. I really feel I am living my childhood dream (aside from marrying Justin Timberlake and living in a beachfront mansion L).
  4. I show my love through food, I love to be in the kitchen cooking for family and friends. I also love being showered with compliments after they have eaten said food. (Y’all, I’m sorry, I can’t help it. I’m a Leo.)
  5. My wedding was during Hurricane Sandy (the one that almost wiped out the Jersey Shore). It was passing Daytona Beach, the day my husband and I tied the knot (literally, we’re Hindu J).
  6. My parents are from Guyana in South America. Our culture has shaped me in many ways. We work hard, love harder, and play hardest. We can figure out a way to turn anything into a party!
  7. I was born in New York City, lived in New Jersey (until I was 7), and summered there throughout grade school. Sometimes the NY/NJ attitude comes out when I am frustrated.
  8. I have the most adorable traitor of a dog. I saved him from a life on the streets and have spoiled him rotten for 6 years. We then met my now husband, and I immediately became his second favorite person.
  9. My husband and I love to travel… to the beach. Most of our vacations have been to the Caribbean or Pacific tropical destinations.
  10. My ultimate goal in life is to find happiness; the rest always falls into place.
