Portrait of a GFFer: Jim West

Meet Jim West, an associate principal and a member of Maria Gomez’s studio. Jim joined GFF in 2011 and is a multi-family guru! When Jim is not taking bike tours through Provence in the south of France or Andalucía, Spain, he is renovating his 1950’s home where he lives with his dog Brody.

  1. I’m the youngest of 4, so I have fun now getting back at my siblings for being mean when we were young. My nephews are getting drum sets for Christmas this year.
  2. I trained as a pastry chef a few years before joining GFF. It was something I’d always wanted to do.
  3. Ice cream is probably my favorite thing to make, though I once made the wedding cake for the daughter of an architecture client. It fed 400 guests.
  4. I had a Mohawk during my brief chef career.
  5. Travel is one of my biggest passions outside of Architecture and cooking. I’ve visited 37 of the 50 States, and half of the EU member countries.
  6. The bike tour through Provence was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
  7. I probably shouldn’t say this, but reindeer is one of my favorite things to eat. You can find a recipe for it here.
  8. I’m a history junkie.
  9. I’m an ordained minister. Via the internet. I’ve performed 4 weddings to date.
  10. I speak 4 languages and am taking classes to learn my 5th: Spanish.
