Working at an architecture firm, one has to occasionally wonder about the hidden talents of your coworkers; what with being employed in such a design-intensive profession. Fortunately for us, the North Texas Business Council for the Arts provides an outlet for not only GFF, but many other DFW corporations to present any kind of artistic endeavor an employee (and/or spouse) might pursue in their free time. Aptly titled, On My Own Time is put on once a year by the BCA and allows companies to generate a gallery of creative projects birthed from the minds and hands of their very own workforce.
This summer, GFF took part in our fourth year of On My Own Time which culminated in our firm-wide gala that we held this past Friday. Our gallery consisted of upwards of 50 entries that ranged anywhere from paintings on canvas to photography to mixed media and sculptures. The diverse exhibit was installed last week at Dallas’ own Random Art Gallery, located in the Design District. Awards were distributed during Friday’s event to victors of each category of art as well as a People’s Choice award voted on during the reception. We’ve even decided to take our awards one step further this year and use the People’s Choice votes to select a number of pieces that will grace the very walls of our office! We’re very fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in BCA’s Own My Own Time every year, and even more thankful for the astonishing talent residing within the GFF family!
