Award-winning multi-disciplinary design firm GFF will open an Austin office on April 2, 2018. The 125-person Dallas and Fort Worth-based practice will offer architectural, interior design, master planning and landscape architectural services from their new office at 800 Brazos Street in downtown Austin. GFF has a 36-year history and has grown to be an over $30 million per year business.
Because an increasing share of the firm’s workload comes from relationships with Austin-based entities such as Cypress Real Estate Advisors, Aspen Heights, Endeavor and Life Austin, the decision to expand to Austin came easily, and was unanimously supported by the firm’s ownership. “Having a presence in Austin and making a solid commitment in that community will help us serve our existing clients better, and allow us to forge new relationships,” commented GFF Senior Principal Evan Beattie, AIA, LEED AP.
GFF has tapped Jim West to serve as Managing Director of GFF Austin. For the past seven years, Jim has been spending half his time on his Austin and San Antonio projects, so this choice was natural. “Southwest Airlines’ loss is Austin’s gain,” quipped West.
GFF is committed to transfer its culture of civic engagement and volunteerism to Austin. The firm would not make this move without jumping into community service and activism with both feet. The Austin team will consist of a mix of the company’s Dallas professionals relocating to Austin and local hires at the new graduate and mid-career levels.
GFF has a diverse design practice equally divided among projects for the real estate development community, retail stores and workplaces for corporate America, and a healthy mix of private schools, higher education, churches and non-profits. “We expect the same work profile in Austin,” said West. “We have a large number of successfully completed buildings to point to, and a good backlog of current work in the pipeline with existing clients.”
Among notable GFF Austin projects are the Aspen Heights West Campus Tower nearing completion, the mixed-use Corazon development on East 6th Street, the Lantana Ridge office building now serving as YETI’s new headquarters on Southwest Parkway and the amphitheater/outdoor worship center for Life Austin.
