Alta Strand

Located on a long, linear site in the Dallas Design District, Alta Strand is a 400 unit, 5-story wood framed luxury apartment community for Wood Partners built in 2017. The building stretches nearly 1000 feet along Turtle Creek and an extension of the Trinity Strand Trail, and the design focused on opening the courtyard spaces up to the natural amenities provided by the creek. Efforts were even made to conserve a large heritage tree along the bank, which suggested an area to avoid with the construction footprint. The building takes on a serpentine form and has a clean, modern aesthetic, creating an interesting backdrop along the trail. The shape and context of the site itself brought many challenges with access and layout, but the design team worked with the City of Dallas to come up with solutions which ultimately led to a more interesting project.
