Last week GFF installed our exhibit for the 2018 AIA RETROSPECT in NorthPark Mall and it is displayed with a number of other exhibits designed by architecture firms in Dallas. RETROSPECT is a public outreach event designed to promote architects, architecture, and activities within the community. The exhibit demonstrates how architects lead efforts to make our city a better place to live, work, and play.
GFF held an internal design competition to choose a design to build and submit to the exhibit. Idaliza Camacho’s design won. Once a design was picked a team was assembled including Idaliza Camacho, Luis Tejeda, Lena Starostine, David Dumas, Morgan Harrison, Mariah Treviso, Laura Eder, Crystal Gore, Susan Wright, and Xavier Spencer. Meetings were held, construction drawings produced, and Specified Specialty Products was contracted to build the exhibit. The GFF team worked to coordinate, facilitate, and document the entire process.
For the exhibit GFF partnered with Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC) because, like GFF, they strive to create a positive impact on the communities they serve. Their mission is to improve the lives of children whose happiness has been compromised due to unfortunate circumstances. “Building Hope” is the title for the exhibit which aims to celebrate DCAC’s mission with children. Wooden blocks used as toys by children became the main concept and source of inspiration for this design. After the exhibition is over the wood blocks utilized in the exhibit piece will be donated to DCAC for the children to play with for many years to come. The exhibit will be in NorthPark until Wednesday, May 9th.
