Dallas, Texas
The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Dallas, Texas, engaged GFF to expand both their church and school facilities on a nine-acre site. The master plan included a 33,000-square-foot addition in two phases, with buildings flanking the original 500-seat church built in 1968. A key design element is the gathering arcade, a skylit space that illuminates the church’s narthex and features a labyrinth modeled after Chartres Cathedral.
The initial 19,000-square-foot addition included a parish hall, kitchen, conference and classrooms, nursery, bride’s room, and parlor. A new bell tower was also added, serving as a vertical accent to the horizontal design of the addition. The expansion aimed to provide a cohesive and functional environment, meeting the needs of both the church and school communities.
