The master plan for the Market proposes to create a popular destination not only for local residents, but also for tourists looking for an experience that is authentically Dallas, by incorporating iconic Dallas restaurants, cafes, retail outlets, seafood and meat markets with locally farmed produce. The plan proposes a combination of demolition of underutilized market sheds 3 and 4, restoration of sheds 1 and 2, and new construction which includes more than 30,000 SF of retail/restaurant lease space and 350 residential units in a pedestrian-oriented setting. Streets will accommodate the usual to and fro of cars and trucks during quiet business hours, and transform into pedestrian-only space for concerts or food festivals during busy weekends and for special events. A public parking garage for 300 cars is being constructed as a part of the mixed use development. The project will begin construction in the first quarter of 2014.
