The City and private sector funding partners engaged a large consulting team (for which GFF is providing base mapping, site analysis and site selection expertise) to develop a master plan for adding significant new parks for Downtown Dallas. The study has identified 17 candidate sites for evaluation, ranging from small plazas or “vest-pocket” parks to strategic parkway linkages to larger urban parks which could offer active recreation and facilitate large celebrations or festivals. Working with a steering committee, and with public input, a list of 13 criteria were proposed for use in comparing the sites. The three top-ranked sites will soon proceed into detailed programming and design. Carter and Burgess is prime consultant for the study and Hargreaves Associates provided urban design and landscape architectural services.
