Anchoring the successful Knox Street shopping district in Dallas, this 37,000 SF Crate & Barrel Store is an award-winning southwest flagship for furniture and housewares marrying quality design and corporate culture. The structure combines elemental materials: stained concrete and fossilized limestone, wood, glass and stucco, while including volumes both open and closed, solid and transparent. While deeply shadowed windows provide controlled natural light to the sales areas, a 38-foot high curtain wall with a louvered sunscreen encloses the central lobby. At night, the lobby turns inside out as light and views of the displays spill into the street.
This was GFF’s first assignment for Crate & Barrel, leading to successful collaboration on more than 15 homestores across the U.S. Jacques Verlinden, Director of Design for Crate and Barrel was the Project Designer for the series of stores executed by GFF.
