The Rector of Christ Episcopal Church spent a great deal of time in England, and was an avid student and admirer of the Perpendicular cathedrals of the Gothic period. His dream for his new sanctuary was to adapt stylistic characteristics of that age to 21st century Texas. The resulting design is a 34,000 SF sanctuary seating 1,500 people. The plan merged a traditional cruciform plan with fan shaped seating by clipping the corners of the nave/transept intersection. The new plan offers unobstructed views of the altar, music platform and acolyte seating. Finishes include limestone, slate, cherry and pecan. Natural clerestory and custom chandeliers provide ample lighting for the new sanctuary.
